Amie’s Story

“Living in Manhattan, hunger is constantly in your face. All you have to do is take a walk outside.” – Amie Valpone

Manhattan food blogger Amie Valpone was excited to cook up an entry for the ShopRite Partners In Caring and General Mills Expressions of Hunger contest. The topic of food is very close to Amie’s heart, as she not only writes her thoughts about food on her blog, The Healthy Apple, but she is also a Manhattan-based Culinary Nutritionist. Fueled by her passion for food and desire to help those who are deprived of this basic necessity, Amie created “Hunger Hanging Over My Head,” a dramatic poem spoken as the character of someone who is food insecure.

After submitting her entry to the ShopRite Partners In Caring Expressions of Hunger contest website, Amie encouraged her family, friends and blog readers to visit the site to learn more about the issue of hunger and how people can help. Going along with her blog’s purpose to share information and spark imagination, Amie hoped that by learning about the fight against hunger, her followers and friends would be inspired to get further involved.

Amie holds a B.S. in Management from Boston University and received additional training at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in Manhattan. She is also certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. To learn more about Amie and her passion for food, visit her blog at
